On Tuesday (14/11), it was announced that the Indonesian game A Space for the Unbound was nominated for The Game Awards 2023. The game is listed in the Games for Impact category, alongside Chants of Sennaar, Goodbye Volcano High, Tchia, Terra Nil, and Venba. The Game Awards describes Games for Impact as a category for “thought-provoking games with a pro-social meaning or message”.

A Space for the Unbound is a game created by Mojiken Studio and Toge Productions. It is a surreal narrative adventure game that tells the story of Atma and Raya. After an encounter with a supernatural book, the two soon find themselves having to grapple with their relationship, unravelled secrets hidden within their town, and a possible end of the world itself.

Featuring a lush 2D pixel-art depiction of 90’s Indonesia, the game is praised by Indonesian fans for its rich and nostalgic setting. Fans have also noted its heartfelt narrative of adolescence and overcoming depression told through elements of magical realism as a strong point of the game.

A Space for the Unbound started its development in 2015 and released a prologue chapter of the game in 2020. The full game was released on 19 January 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Sony Playstation 4/5, and the Xbox Series X/S.

A Space for the Unbound‘s social media accounts also have posted about the nomination. They encourage the fans to support them through voting on The Game Awards website.

The Game Awards 2023 itself will be held on 7 December 2023 at 7:30 PM ET. The event will be available on various streaming platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
