Synopsis
Hotaru Hinase, a first-year high school student, is blessed with a loving family and friends, but she has always been a bit distant from romance. One day, she witnessed the handsome Hanaoi-kun from the neighbouring class standing alone in the park. Hotaru casually offers him her umbrella, but this event becomes the catalyst for a public confession from Hanaoi-kun, who asks Hotaru to be his girlfriend on a later day.

A Condition Called Love is a cute love story about a girl who doesn’t understand love and a boy who misunderstands love. The girl’s personal conflict is easy to understand, but the boy is a walking red flag. It’s great that the anime establishes his behaviour as problematic because more often than not, it is often depicted as romantic. Love, after all, is not about trying to live up to your partner’s standard. It’s about how two people communicate and learn from it. Either way, the male lead clearly needs therapy, and I’m interested to see how both leads overcome their insecurity.
