Animated by Studio Durian, the adaptation will be directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who also wrote the script and designed the characters. The music is composed by Haruka Nakamura, who also composed the film’s theme song Light Song. The theme song itself is performed by Japanese Singer Urara.
Tatsuki Fujimoto, famous as the creator of Chainsaw Man, first debuted Look Back manga in July 2021 on Shueisha’s Shounen Jump+ website and app. Just two days after its publication, the manga reached over 4 million reads. The tankoubon version of the manga also sold 73,912 copies in its first week of release.
The manga tells a relationship between a fourth-grader Ayumu Fujino and her shut-in friend Kyomoto. Fujino is a member of her school’s magazine club and draws four-panel manga for them. One day, Kyomoto also submitted his work to the school magazine. Other students praised Kyomoto’s manga while saying that Fujino’s art is average compared to him. Fujino is angered by these responses, thinking that there is no way that her art is worse than another student who never attended school.
In Japan, the film is set to premiere on 28 June 2024. The Indonesian premiere date has not been announced yet.
