Synopsis

Himouto! Umaru-chan R is the second season of Himouto Umaru Chan that tells the life of Taihei Doma and her sister Umaru, a beautiful and clever girl and excels at sports while in school. However, umaru has a secret. Everyone might think she is the ideal girl, but the truth is that she is a Himouto. “Himōto” is composed of the words “imōto” (sister) and “himono,” which means “dried fish,” but in slang can refer to a graceful woman in public but a lazy at home.

After two years of waiting, the anticipated sequel of the story of the lazy sister is here. The first episode is titled “the Return of Umaru,” divided into four segments that will refresh the memories of returning viewers about the character traits and the relationships between them. It begins with Taihei Doma’s narrative just like the pilot episode from the first season.

Umaru, with her hedonistic lifestyle at home, spending her time like the stereotypical NEET life (manga, anime, game, snack, cola, stay up late, you name it), parasiting her brother, Taehei. Nevertheless Taehei still cares and be responsible for her sister, even though Umaru called him a “corporate slave!” (such a insubordinate sister).

In contrast to Gabriel Tenma White from Gabriel Dropout (from the same mangaka and the same studio), where she doesn’t care at all for other peoples’ thoughts about her laziness, Umaru maintains a proper image in front of society (except towards her brother), just like what the subtitle say: “my two-faced little sister.” Here, the talent of Aimi Tanaka lends well to portraying the three diffferent personalities of Umaru: in public, at home (Super Deformed mode) and UMR-san.

Umaru’s friends who make up the other three characters are also interesting, like Sylphynford, Umaru self-proclaimed rival who is eccentric and proud, but never wins. There are also Ebina, who is always careless (dojikko), and Kirie, the admirer of Umaru who is shy but constantly emits a killer aura.

A sprinkle of fresh humor and instantly recognizable parody, lovable characters and catchy OP & ED songs brought by the voice casts themselves are the reasons for this dose of moe sister comedy anime (not incest), Himouto! Umaru-chan R to be bookmarked in autumn 2017.
