This year, along with Gojo and Kitagawa from My Dress-Up Darling, Sasaki and Miyano have made their debut as another delinquent and nerd couple.

The first episode of “Sasaki and Miyano” starts from their fated meeting in a bullying incident, and three months after that. The story revolves around how they become closer in the past three months and the plot kind of goes back and forth to the past and present. Looking at Miyano who proclaims himself as a fudanshi, he only sees BL as pure fantasy. He likes to share his excitement about the characters of BL manga, talking about BL material with his senior.

How SasaMiya represents fujodanshi culture in the first episode highlights the difference between fujodanshi and otaku. Miyano, while being a fudanshi, has his fantasy about his friends as BL material, Miyano is well aware that it is just in his imagination and he doesn’t see himself being that way. As Miyano said, “I only enjoy reading these kinds of things. I myself am not like that.” Little does Miyano know that his air-headedness and stubbornness are attractive to Sasaki, and that his fantasy may not really be far off from reality.
