Based on an action novel by Baku Yumemakura, the original Garouden tells the story of a fighter named Bunshichi Tanba. As a fighter, Tanba has to navigate the fast and intense world of fist fighting which has become his daily life.
Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf itself focuses more on Tanba’s rival, Juzo Fujimaki. While running from his troubled past, Juzo is forced to compete in a deadly illegal fighting tournament. Previously a master of the respected martial art Takemiya-ryu, Fujimaki must navigate a dark world full of formidable opponents while dealing with his problems—all while being hunted as a fugitive with a three million yen bounty on his head and pursued by an unyielding detective.
Directed by Atsushi Ikariya (ID: INVADED, Sabikui Bisco) with animation by NAZ (Good Night World, Thermae Romae Novae), Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf amplifies their fight scenes by capturing original movements from various martial arts, such as boxing, karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and sumo. The team behind the anime is also being helped by various martial artists such as Takeru, Koki, Roberto Satoshi de Souza, and Murilo Takeshi de Souza from Bonsai Jiujitsu, Rei Tsuruya and Takeru Uchida from THE BLACKBELT JAPAN, and Shimon Kagiyama and Fubito Aizawa from Quip.
