Following her debut album titled VIRTUAL AFTER ALL: naked, Crystagella proudly announces her return with a series of singles leading her listeners into new adventures in her second album, VIRTUAL AFTER ALL: dressed up.
Crystagella’s latest single titled 9 Two 5 marks a new step in her musical journey. Remaining true to her electronic music roots, but this time Crystagella introduces a fresh, more pop-oriented touch. With a blend of synthwave and city-pop elements, characteristic of her style, the song promises a profound experience for listeners, taking them on an unforgettable emotional journey.
Crystagella, the virtual musician from Jakarta commonly known as Krista, states that the theme of this single closely relates to the everyday life stories she experiences. 9 Two 5 is a result of Krista’s experiences while riding the Electric Rail Train, her daily transportation in Jakarta. “Most of my life is spent on public trains. I often experience crowds and have to stand, sometimes even facing trains without AC. However, all of that is part of my life story,” says Krista.
With profound lyrics, 9 Two 5 depicts the experiences of every train passenger, embarking on their daily journey to pursue activities starting at 9 in the morning and ending at 5 in the afternoon. However, beyond the narrative of routine physical travel, the song serves as a mirror for Krista to express her love story towards everyday life. Through carefully crafted words, Krista paints an emotional picture of her feelings toward the routines and pressures that accompany her every step. “Sometimes when I listen to the song, it feels like a love story, it actually is a love story, but not towards someone, but towards life itself. I try to love every aspect of my daily life, not just the joys, but also the sorrows, anger, and other pressures,” sincerely expresses Krista.
Although the song was written in Jakarta while Krista was on her way to the studio by train, its production was done remotely. Krista, who serves as the music producer, songwriter, and composer, operates from Malaysia. Krista recorded her vocals herself in her dorm room, creating an intimate and personal atmosphere. Meanwhile, Sabeth Uttara, based in Jakarta, contributes as the co-producer, arranger, and mixing/mastering engineer. To complete the composition, the guitar in this song is performed by Muhammad Alifa, also known as Ale, the lead guitarist of Jakarta’s alternative rock band RedFlag. With this long-distance collaboration, they have successfully created a captivating and colorful piece of music.
9 Two 5 officially released on Friday, June 14, 2024, as the fourth single from the album VIRTUAL AFTER ALL: dressed up. The album is scheduled to be launched in August 2024, taking listeners on a colorful and emotional musical journey.
