The super idol LadyBeard once again returned to Indonesia. This time, LadyBeard was the guest star of Chibicon 7 Surabaya, held on 21–22 June 2025. This marked his second appearance in the country, following his debut at Chibicon Jakarta in August 2024.
LadyBeard, whose real name is Richard Magarey, is an Australian singer who is active as an idol in Japan. LadyBeard initially started his career as a pro wrestler and stuntman, appearing in various films and wrestling promotions. LadyBeard’s idol career began when he joined the Japanese idol group LadyBaby in 2015 before moving to another idol group Deadlift Lolita, in 2017. Currently, he’s an active member of BabyBeard, an idol group he created in 2021.
As part of his visit, LadyBeard held a live concert on the first day of the event. The concert was held at Chameleon Hall, Tunjungan Plaza 6, Surabaya. During the concert, he performed both his original songs and metal-style covers of some well-known Japanese songs.
Right from the start, LadyBeard showed an energetic performance. Some of the songs he performed are PA PA YA!! from BABYMETAL, Moonlight Densetsu from the Sailor Moon series, Onegai Cinderella from THE iDOLM@STER, and Nippon Manju by Ladybaby. He also interacted with the Surabaya audience between the performances.
“This is my first time in Surabaya! Surabaya is the city of heroes, right? To me, you are all my heroes”, said LadyBeard, charming the local crowd with his heartfelt words.
In a moment, LadyBeard even tried speaking in Javanese, stunning the audience by saying, “Aku tresno sampean”, which translates to “I love you” in English. The crowd erupted in cheers. One of the audience handed him a flower because of this, while others formed heart gestures with their hands.
One of the fans also asked about the first anime he watched when he was a kid, to which he replied, “The first anime I watched as a kid was Akira. However, it’s not an anime for children, so don’t show it to them.” His humorous response earned big laughs from the audience.
Given Surabaya’s hot weather, LadyBeard also reminded fans to stay hydrated. “In Surabaya, remember to stay hydrated”, he said while drinking water on the stage. One fan even gave him a handheld fan to help him cool off. “I was warned that Surabaya is hot, and they were right”, he quipped.
The concert wrapped up with two of LadyBeard’s original songs, Nippon Kara Konnichiwa and Twisted Kaiju Tale. As the show came to a close, he thanked the Surabaya audience for their energy and enthusiasm throughout the night. “Surabaya, I love you!” he shouted, closing the performance to thunderous applause.
