As previously reported, anime streaming platform Crunchyroll has significantly expanded its catalogue for Indonesian viewers by assembling over 100 anime titles available with Indonesian subtitles. Some of the popular anime titles available include Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, JUJUTSU KAISEN, Kaiju No.8, KONOSUBA: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, and many more.

To further promote the brand in Indonesia, Crunchyroll also partnered with Telkomsel and introduced bundle packages for Indonesian users. The package starts from IDR 36,000 and includes access to a MAXstream quota of up to 3 GB with a Crunchyroll subscription.

During Anime Festival Asia Indonesia (AFAID) 2025, we have asked Crunchyroll regarding their long-term strategies and vision for the Indonesian market. The answers we received offered insights into Crunchyroll’s commitment to anime fans in Indonesia and expanding the accessibility of anime content in Southeast Asia. Here is our interview!

KAORI Nusantara (KN): Given the positive response to Indonesian subtitles, what are the next steps in content localisation? Is there any plan for dubbing or licensing classic anime titles?

Crunchyroll is committed to enhancing the anime experience for Indonesian fans. We currently offer over 200 anime titles in Bahasa Indonesia subs, and we’re always working on ways to deepen our localisation efforts. This includes expanding our subtitled catalogue and assessing opportunities for dubbing select titles based on local demand. Licensing beloved classic titles is also part of our ongoing effort. We want to offer fans a rich, nostalgic anime experience alongside the latest simulcasts.

KN: Amidst the competition among streaming platforms, what unique value does Crunchyroll offer to specifically engage the anime community in Indonesia?

Crunchyroll is an anime-first platform, offering a community-driven experience that truly celebrates anime culture. We provide simulcasts so fans can watch the latest episodes as they air in Japan, alongside a large library of exclusive titles. But our commitment goes beyond streaming. We engage fans through local events, theatrical releases, gaming, and partnerships to create an immersive anime experience.

In Indonesia, fan-focused initiatives like our participation at AFA ID and the upcoming theatrical release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle this August allow us to connect meaningfully with audiences and build authentic touchpoints beyond the screen.

KN: How do viewer preferences and data from Indonesia influence the curation and selection of upcoming anime titles on your platform?

Indonesian anime fans have diverse tastes, and we actively analyse viewership patterns and engagement metrics to guide our content curation. Genres like action, fantasy, and adventure consistently resonate with local audiences, and this insight helps us prioritise titles that reflect regional preferences while introducing new stories that broaden the anime experience.

KN: What is Crunchyroll’s long-term vision for the Indonesian market beyond streaming services, for instance, in terms of theatrical film distribution or the availability of official merchandise?

Indonesia is a key market for us in Southeast Asia, and our long-term vision goes far beyond streaming. This August, we’re bringing Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle to theatres across Indonesia, allowing fans to experience anime on the big screen. We’re also actively participating in fan events like AFA to celebrate anime culture and connect with the local community. Our goal is to build a vibrant anime offering in Indonesia, where fans can engage with their favourite stories through theatrical releases, events, games, music, and more.
