The animated feature CHIIKAWA THE MOVIE: The Secret of the Mermaid Island is set to be screened in Indonesian cinemas. According to the distributor CBI Pictures, the film will premiere in the country on 28 August 2026.

As of 4 August 2026, two Indonesian cinema chains have already announced that the film will be available in their theatres: CGV Cinemas Indonesia and Cinepolis Indonesia.

Chiikawa, also known as Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu, is a Japanese web manga series written and illustrated by Nagano. It follows the daily adventures of the protagonist Chiikawa and his friend. It has been serialised online via X (formerly Twitter) since January 2020, and has been collected in eight tankōbon volumes by Kodansha.

The film is directed by Kei Oikawa and animated by Cygames Pictures, with the screenplay written by the original creator Nagano. The film adapts the Siren Arc/Island Arc from the manga.

In the film, Chiikawa and Hachiware as they receive an invitation from Usagi to visit a mysterious island. Tempted by the promise of a generous reward and free local delicacies, including ramen and the island’s signature pastries, the trio sets off on the journey. However, Rakko becomes suspicious of the invitation and joins them to uncover the truth behind the island’s hidden secrets.

Before its Indonesian release, the film enjoyed a highly successful theatrical run in Japan following its premiere on 24 July 2026. During its opening weekend, CHIIKAWA THE MOVIE: The Secret of the Mermaid Island topped the Japanese box office, earning 2.24 billion yen while selling more than 1.5 million tickets.
