After Land of the Lustrous and The Ancient Magus’ Bride, other fantasy anime Children of the Whales also premiere this season. While all of them have solid first episode, there are differences in the central themes. If Land of the Lustrous tells story about friendship and The Ancient Magus’ Bride focus on family and romance, Children of the Whales feels more like an adventure story of Chikuro, who tries to unravel the mystery behind the secret of his world. In Children of the Whales, the elders seem to know the secret of outside world, but hiding it from the younger villagers. It will be interesting to see Chakuro and his friends solve the real nature of their world and facing the dire consequences.
