Elex Media Komputindo will publish the sport manga Blue Lock in Indonesia. As of Wednesday (8/9), the Twitter account of Elex Media’s editors of comics have posted an update regarding the series, mentioning that the second volume is in editing process, while the first volume will be released in “a couple of months.” Further information about the exact release date, format, and retail price has not been revealed yet.

Elex Media had first expressed interest in the manga in October 2020, when the editors’ Twitter account asked the followers to like the post if they wanted the Elex Media to publish Blue Lock. After an update that the license request has been sent to the Japanese publisher in December 2020, in June 2021 the publisher finally confirmed that they have obtained the publishing right, with expected release window around the end of 2021 or early 2022.

Written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and drawn by Yusuke Nomura, Blue Lock began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine in August 2018. The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The elimination prompts the Japan Football Union to start a program for high-school football players in preparation for the 2022 World Cup. The Union initiates a prison-like training institution called Blue Lock, which isolates 300 young forwards and puts them through rigorous training to create “the world’s greatest egoistic striker”.

It has also been announced that Blue Lock will get an anime adaptation in 2022. The anime is produced at 8-bit and directed by Tetsuaki Watanabe with Shunsuke Ishikawa as assistant director. Taku Kishimoto will write the scripts while Masaru Shindo is the character designer and main animation director.

Elex Media Komputindo is a comics publisher under the Kompas-Gramedia Group. The publisher releases licensed foreign comics, including manga, and also Indonesian comics. Since 2005, Elex Media also published comics that intended for adult audiences under the Level Comics imprint.
