It is the time of the year again for all Muslims: Ramadan. Ramadan is the holy month for Muslims where you have to refrain from their worldly desire. For Muslims, this holy month is a time when their belief is tested. They are prohibited from doing something that is usually allowed during the day, like eating, drinking, or watching something impure, and hold that desire until the sun is set. Some Muslims jokingly called Ramadan as their “training arc”, whereas others, like one of our KAORI contributors here, called Ramadan a “Double XP event.”

Last year, KAORI created a list of anime that are recommended to watch during Ramadan. However since new contributors joined at the end of last year, we think it’s a good idea to create more of this list and ask the new contributors to participate. What kind of anime is recommended to watch during Ramadan? Here are our new recommendations!

Insomniacs After School

Ramadhan is basically a double EXP event for Muslims, therefore we are expected to do as many good deeds as possible in the meantime. It is said that when you are fasting, even sleeping counts as a good deed, and from my personal experience Insomniac After School helped a lot in making me drowsy to the point of actually falling asleep, thanks to the slow-paced plot and soothing OSTs. Maybe at night when you have trouble sleeping due to having too much kolak for iftar, you can try watching the anime or at least put it on as background noise. Just make sure to set an alarm beforehand so you can still wake up on time for suhoor. (Shayna Agasthya – The Indonesian Anime Times)

Super Cub

Traveling during Ramadan can be tiring, as an alternative, you can travel with Koguma and her favorite Honda Super Cub C70 motoped in Super Cub anime. Maybe the automotive theme sounds niche for an anime, but besides “Honda motorcycles lore”, Koguma’s coming-of-age story is warming to watch. She has no parents. She also has no friends in high school and has no particular dream. But her minimalist life could be meaningful when she gains good and bad experiences during her days with her motoped. Just like how we should learn every day to improve ourselves as a human being, right? (Mika Ghinannafsi – The Indonesian Anime Times)

Bocchi the Rock!

Many anime and manga recommendations are suitable for Ramadhan month. Bocchi the Rock! is one of the most notable anime that I watched at any time even in the month of Ramadhan. Perhaps due to their love for music, particularly the rock genre, as well as friendship through hardships and improving their music skills within each show they attended, this anime is inspiring and relatable for many people, especially when both friendship and hardships can shape people for better or worse. Aoashi

Looking for a fresh anime to watch but also both educational and inspiring, especially during the month of Ramadhan? Aoashi is the perfect anime for you! Ao no Ashi gives you a new perspective when it comes to football, from the story of a talented youth football player to the aspect people often forget during football matches and spaces. The explanation about football, in terms of gameplay, tactics, and many more in this anime is surprisingly easy and fun to understand for everyone even people who are new to football. Not only that, the story about a talented youth football player named Aoi Ashito proves to be such an inspiration for many people. It shows that even with the odds stacked against him, through support as well as facing hardships with determination and willpower, anything is possible, and that is what makes this anime a must-watch for this Ramadhan month. Guns und Panser Das Finale Part 4

The long-awaited action-packed movie anime has finally returned as Girls und Panzer Das Finale Part 4 brings us plenty of new stuff that makes the series worth watching and enjoying. The continuation battle between Oarai and Jatkosota as well as between Kuroromine and St. Gloriana proves to be a close battle until the end, with the former having non-stop fun and action through mountains and down the slope with unexpected twists, surprising conclusions, and one of the best cinematography experience ever in anime history, while the latter is equally well-done action as they facing through in the canyon and against the desert storm. The sauna scene is a nice addition, but the main stars are the introduction of new tanks such as Panzer II, and new characters such as Rukuriri from St. Gloriana and Tomi from Jatkosota. Overall, this movie anime is an excellent recommendation to watch even during Ramadhan, the full package is just right in front of you! (Eriq Affandi – The Indonesian Anime Times)
