Held exactly one year after the 2023 event, annual Indonesian comic event Pesta Komik Bandung (Peskom) was held once again on 1-2 June 2024 at Istana BEC, Bandung. Going beyond last year’s, Pesta Komik Bandung 2024 had a whopping 61 creator booths with lots of original comics released for the first time.
While the tenants mainly came from the Greater Jakarta area and Bandung, there were also creators from Lampung and Bali in the event. There were some students who open their booths as well, namely from Institut Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Insitute of Art), Telkom University, and Institut Teknologi Bandung (Bandung Institue of technology).
According to a tenant, this year’s Peskom exceeded their expectation. There was much more crowd than last year. They also stated that some visitors were “upset” because they spent much more on comics and merchandise than they initially planned. Another tenant stated that their comics sold out in the span of 2 to 3 hours after they were open. Other than comics, Peskom Bandung 2024 also teased the animated adaptations of Pupus Putus Sekolah and Wanara.
After various complementary activities held by the organizers, Peskom Bandung 2024 closed their event with Pesta Komik Bandung Award, an awarding event for all comic artists who attended the Peskom event. Here are the winners of Pesta Komik Bandung Award:
- Best Story: 40 Langkah dari Kubur by Ason
- Best Original Comic: Tomorrow I’m Going to End My Life by Kathrinna Rakhmavika
- Best Unique Comic: Booklet Motivasi by Alif JH
- Best Children’s Comic: Pupus Putus Sekolah: Anak Keluarga by Kurnia Harta Winata
- Best Comic Strip: Lucky Komik by Lucky
- Best Comic Artist: Ranting by Nadim Sulthan
- Best Newcomer: Traces of Past by Tsalitsa K.
- Best Anthology: First Timers by Kolam Susu
- Best Cover: Jammin’ Jenna: Rude Awakening by Laras Putri
- Best Merchandise: Cara Mudah Menyusun Halaman Saddle Stitch by Paula Amelia Tania S. from Puine dan PENG PENG booth
- Best Booth: Kejurnas Adu Gasing booth (Comicotopia, Padepokan Ragasukma, Perakit Komik)
- Best Official Digital Comic: Baper Dikit Ga Ngaruh! by M. E. A. W.
There are also two special awards, which awarded to:
- Best Comic of 2023/2024: Jaka Mekanik #01 by Zoe Iskander (Sekuen Lab Studio)
- Best Peskom Comic of 2023/2024: Finding Hero by Erfan Fajar
While I can’t say for sure if Peskom Bandung had more comics first releases than last year’s, it was certain there were a lot of new comics coming up at the event. It was also exhilarating to see artists, who released a prequel comic at Peskom, continue to release the next chapter of their works at the next Peskom.
