Garuda Indonesia has collaborated with the Indonesian comic brand Tahilalats to create a special edition aircraft livery. The Tahilalats-themed special livery is used for the first time on the GA-422 flight from Jakarta to Bali, on 18 January 2025.

Irene Umar, Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Creative Economy, welcomed the collaboration. She saw this collaboration as proof that Indonesian creators can create something extraordinary and highlighted the potential of Indonesia’s creative industry.
“Thank you to Garuda and Tahilalats. This is something to be celebrated. A comic created by an Indonesian creator collaborates with another Indonesian product, that’s an innovative breakthrough,” said Irene.
Not only on the aircraft’s exterior, Tahilalats also appears on the headrests, safety cards, and even the lavatory mirrors. Irene noted that this collaboration reflects the Ministry’s commitment to advancing Indonesia’s creative economy.
“This partnership will create more opportunities for various stakeholders and serves as a starting point for other Indonesian brands to engage in similar collaborations,” she added.
This isn’t the first time Garuda Indonesia has featured special liveries for their plane. The airline previously created a special-themed livery using the Japanese IP Pokemon. However, that collaboration drew criticism from Indonesian Parliament member Tom Liwafa, who suggested that Garuda Indonesia should focus on promoting local products, not cultural products from overseas.
In light of this, Tom praised the Garuda’s partnership with Tahilalats. “This is evidence that the Ministry of Creative Economy is acting quickly and responsively to the issue. Because of this, we must extend our appreciation,” Tom stated.
Created by Nurfadli Mursyid, Tahilalats is an Indonesian comic that started as a webcomic in 2014 on Instagram. It later expanded to other platforms like Facebook and Line Webtoon and has become one of the most popular comics in Indonesia today. The comic usually portrays the daily lives of various characters, but then satirises them and the story often ends with absurd twists.
