Based on a manga by Akane Shimizu, Cells at Work! depicts the activities of different body cells in a healthy human body. The narrative centres on an inexperienced Red Blood Cell (voiced by Kana Hanazawa), who has just started her job to supply oxygen and nutrients to the entire human body. She eventually meets the White Blood Cell or Neutrophil (voiced by Tomoaki Maeno), who is responsible for eliminating harmful bacteria. They cooperate with other human cells to keep the body functioning and to defend it against pathogens and environmental challenges such as heatwaves and allergies.

The Cells at Work! manga was first published in Kadokawa’s Monthly Shonen Sirius in March 2015. In addition to the main series, the author has also released several side stories and spin-offs. In Indonesia, the manga is currently being published by m&c! Publishers.

The first season of the Cells at Work! anime was produced by David Production with Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Drifters) as director. The anime series was  aired on Indonesian Television via NET TV.
