The summer 2025 anime season has begun. In this hot and humid weather, it’s really tempting to just ooze around, drink cold juice, and watch anime. However what anime should you watch?

In this article, we’ve asked KAORI Nusantara’s contributor about their summer 2025 anime watchlist. Some of them put the anime on their watchlist because they already read the original work, but some of them also think the respective anime’s synopsis is interesting and want to give it a try. Either way, this is the anime that they’re looking for in this summer 2025 anime.

Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze

Synopsis:

Yuu Ayase is the son of a legendary actress, but he himself is very mediocre. After his mother’s death, he is taken in by the Mikadono family and is now living together with the family’s three daughters who are prodigies in their respective fields. Despite the gap between them, Yuu is determined to fulfill his mother’s wish for him to make a happy family with them.

What They Say:

Three cool girls and a cute malewife. The target audience is ME!.

Long answer: Basically, I got “artbaited” by the manga. I picked up this work because it has a nice art style. Initially, I thought it would follow the typical harem formula, but I really enjoyed how the story also portrays the influences of societal expectations and/or perceptions towards the characters, both on gender aspects and the whole ‘talented geniuses vs average joes’ premise. All four main characters are full of admirable personalities and they all have great dynamics between each other. Judging from the trailer, I think the anime’s art style and animation choice nicely convey the charm of the original work, and I have to add it to my watchlist for the season (Shayna A).

“A harem manga for girls”. That’s what I thought when I first read the manga. And no, it’s not a reverse harem. The original manga has a male lead, is published in a magazine for male audiences, and follows a typical harem setup: A guy who is started as a loner, then gets entangled with multiple girls, and then chaos, misunderstanding, and hijinks ensue. This is really a shounen manga’s harem story.

However, the manga itself makes heavy use of storytelling techniques usually found in shoujo manga. The character designs look “sparkly”, and the manga also explores the character in a way that’s very shoujo-ish. Compared to the other harem manga, Dealing with Mikadono Sisters is a Breeze focuses more on emotion, not fanservice. I feel that the anime adaptation could be the dark horse of the Summer 2025 season, a harem anime that could appeal to everyone (Dany Muhammad).

When the Mikadono Sisters manga began serialization, I had thought “Is this gonna be Aya Hirakawa’s big break?”, and now it has proven to be a valuable enough property for an anime adaptation. I want to celebrate it by watching the anime (Halimun Muhammad).

When I first watched the trailer, the first thing that caught my attention was how the vibes between the male lead and the female leads are completely switched; Yu seemed to do things that are more associated with being feminine (cooking, house cleaning, etc) compared to other harem romantic comedy main characters, while all three of the Mikadono sisters looks tomboy-ish. It looks like an interesting dynamic to explore, so I can’t wait to check it out! (Alif Naufal Hakim).

Secrets of the Silent Witch

Synopsis:

Monica Everett, the Silent Witch, is a powerful mage who can cast spells silently, but that’s because she’s actually really shy and wants to avoid speaking in public. However, she is now entrusted with a covert mission to guard the second prince at a school, away from her secluded dwelling.

What They Say:

The released materials so far seem to promise this anime to be a good adaptation in presenting both the cool side and the awkward side of Monica, both through character animation and the voice acting. The fantasy world looks to be finely brought to life too, with lush details and colors. (Halimun Muhammad).

CITY THE ANIMATION

©Keiichi Arawi・Kodansha/CITY THE ANIMATION Production Committee

Synopsis:

Everyday life of not-so-ordinary residents of a city.

What They Say:

With the current brainrot trends tend to portray an absurd, very nonsensical way of comedy storytelling, I wonder if Keiichi Arawi’s City adaptation could be suitable for today’s younger audience. However, the adaptation lacks the rough amateurish-looking art that is often associated with the trend. Kyoto Animation’s artstyle is far too good for that. Either way, I’m looking forward to the adaptation, because Nichijou is awesome. (Dany Muhammad).

Kyoto Animation has made fantastic work by adapting the whimsy world and energy of a Keiichi Arawi work with Nichijou before, and I have no doubt they can do it again this time. (Halimun Muhammad).

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Synopsis

Hana Tabata loves flowers and enjoys reading romance manga, but she doesn’t consider herself attractive to be a main character in real life. Yet, when the most handsome boy in class discovers that Hana is the student who has been diligently changing the flowers in the classroom in the mornings, he starts getting close to her.

What They Say:

I had not heard new information about the anime adaptation project for a long time that, at some point, I had assumed that it may have been canceled. So, it comes as a surprise when the news is out that the anime is arriving this year after all. A fun romantic comedy with an otaku heroine can be a pleasant way to spend the summer (Halimun Muhammad).

Ruri Rocks

Synopsis

High school student Tanigawa Ruri loves shiny things, so she heads to the mountains in hopes of finding some crystals for herself. There, she meets Arato Nagi, a college student majoring in mineralogy, and they start collecting minerals together. Sometimes they walk mountain trails searching for crystals, sometimes they wade into rivers looking for garnet stones, and sometimes they examine minerals Ruri has never seen before through a microscope as Nagi guides her into the world of mineral-collecting. Thus the scientific adventure begins in earnest!

What They Say:

The premise around mineralogy is really interesting and would be really educational to watch, but more importantly, I think Ruri Rocks completely nailed what an anime about mineralogy should look like! I really like the cutesy character designs paired with almost painting-like backgrounds they showed in the trailers. The lighting looked really good too, which especially shows when the characters are looking at precious minerals; they all glimmered spectacularly. This looks like another beautifully animated show by ONIMAI‘s director, Shingo Fuuji, so I’m looking forward to watch it!! (Alif Naufal Hakim).

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2

Synopsis

A high school boy with a passion for traditional dolls and a talent for sewing gets roped into making cosplay outfits for one of the prettiest, most popular girls in his class! As the odd couple grows ever closer, they find themselves in racier situations!

What They Say:

A surprise gift for this Summer 2025 anime comes from one of the well-known series I never expected to love in the first place. When the series was introduced for the first time, I predicted that would be a typical romance anime, with few differences. Turned out as the story went, it left me with two lasting positive impressions that are still with me at the time of this writing.

First, it changed my perspective that this anime is more than just a romance. It focuses on two characters who overcome their challenges and differences through creativity in a fresh way and simply having fun doing things they love. In fact, that these bonds between them are truly organic throughout that season, left me a remarkable memory.

Second, it allows me to explore something fresh, especially when it comes to cosplay. From determining which character to cosplay, researching through anime magazines and television, the costume creation, and interacting with people whether it’s another fan or a photographer, during events. Now with the second season on the horizon and the manga series recently finished earlier this year, how this anime will deliver this time? (Eriq Affandi).

Futari Solo Camp

© Debata Yuudai, Kodansha / “Futari Solo Camp” Production Committee

Synopsis

Kinokura Gen, liked being alone, is an ultimate solo camper in his thirties. But one day, he met a novice camper, Kusano Shizuku. Unable to leave her alone, he unwillingly lets her join his solo camp until she can camp by herself.

What They Say:

If I must say, Futari Solo Camp is the grown-up version of Yuru Camp. While the appearance of beer or alcohol is often showcased by mostly the side characters in Yuru Camp, in Futari Solo Camp, beer or alcohol itself is the drink that always accompanies every dish. In Futari Solo Camp, the exploration of camping topics like gear and such are deeper, it felt like it was aimed for the actual camping enthusiast. And to spice things up, the portion of human drama and how adult relationship works are being added to the plates, which makes every camp has different meaning (Vina Nurziani).

Fermat’s Cuisine

©Yuugo Kobayashi, Kodansha/”Fermat’s Cuisine” Production Committee

Synopsis

Kitada Gaku, a young man who once aspired to uncover the world’s truths through mathematics, finds himself at a crossroads after failing to achieve his dream of competing in the Math Olympiad. With his scholarship revoked, he spends his days working at a school cafeteria, struggling with a sense of aimlessness. Everything changes when he meets a brilliant chef who introduces him to the fascinating intersection of mathematics and cooking. As Gaku embarks on this unexpected journey, he is drawn into a culinary world that’s as complex and precise as mathematics itself.

What They Say:

Honestly, if I didn’t go to the anime trailer watch party, I wouldn’t know this anime existed (or adapted). The premise is quite interesting. While cooking has always been science, the idea of blatantly explaining what was happening when a flavor formed has charmed me to put this anime in my watchlist. Since I don’t have any idea about the manga it was adapted from, I’m excited with how the stories unfold. (Vina Nurziani).
