Videtra Reynaldi – The Indonesian Anime Times
Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is the third series in Cygames’ media mix project to receive an anime adaptation after Rage of Bahamut and Granblue Fantasy. In the first episode, we are introduced to Special Week, currently trying to adapt into her new life as well as making new friends in her school.
There are two key aspects in Uma Musume: Pretty Derby: horse racing and live concert (it’s from one of the creators of The iDOLM@STER game, what do you expect?). As an introductory episode to the series, the focus is more on the former, considering Special Week’s main reason to enroll in Tracen Academy is to become the number one uma musume in Japan.
Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is also full of well-known seiyuu (especially from THE iDOLM@STER franchise), so if you’re an idol seiyuu fan looking for an all-star cast, Uma Musume: Pretty Derby could be your go-to show.
Marwa Pranata – KAORI Newsline
For much of human history, horse is one of the animals closest to human life. Perhaps it is for that reason that some people make a series about racehorses in the form of humans.
But don’t be mistaken, beyond these characters with their “extravagant” designs, lies an anime that doesn’t just sell “moe” characters. Yes, even with the cute appereances of the “horses”, it is better to call this anime a sports anime! Why so? What other anime genre that in the opening sequence, show their charactech running in race track, training in the gym, upon a background of blazing flame?
It is a very interesting show to watch this season, with its exciting race (running) scene and the soundtrack that’s really close to the real thing. Who knows, maybe this anime could be a dark horse (pun intended) this season.
PS: still disappointed they’re not centaurs
PPS: Vodka best girl (or horse)
