On Friday (25/2), WAKUWAKU JAPAN announced that they will cease their operation at the end of March 2022. On their website and social media, WAKUWAKU JAPAN team stated their gratitude and apology for those who have followed their program since their first broadcast.

WAKUWAKU JAPAN is a TV channel that focused on the broadcast of Japanese TV programs in Asian countries like Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Since 2014, WAKUWAKU JAPAN has aired various TV programs from J-Drama, Anime, Tokusatsu, Culture, documentary, and many more. WAKUWAKU JAPAN also held an educational event on February 17, 2019, in AEON Mall BSD, Tangerang, Indonesia.

WAKUWAKU JAPAN is a part of the Japanese culture promotional program initiated by Cool Japan Fund Inc., an organization created by the Japanese government and various Japanese companies to promote Japanese culture overseas. Cool Japan itself originally emerged as a term that describes the appeal of Japanese popular culture to foreign recipients, before being adopted by the Japanese government as a brand to promote Japanese culture. The program has been criticized by some Japanese creators and industry experts. Yuta Saito from Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei has called the program “fall flat” while Japanese musician Gackt said the program “almost has no result”.
