The latest animated feature of the Jujutsu Kaisen series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, has been screened in Indonesia since March 16, 2022. Before the premiere date, the distributor Feat Pictures also held an early screening event from March 13 to 15, 2022.

On Monday (21/3), 5 days after the premiere date, Feat Pictures announced that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has reached 500,000 viewers in Indonesian cinemas. This number makes them the most successful anime film screened by Feat Pictures. For comparison, Josee, the Tiger, and the Fish reached 40,000 viewers in total while Violet Evergarden the Movie reached 32,000 viewers. Violet Evergarden spin-off film reached 25,000 viewers after 5 days of screening while BELLE only reached 5,000 viewers after 5 days.

According to the Indonesian box office website Bicara Box Office, this number also makes Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the third most-viewed anime film that screened in Indonesian cinemas, surpassing One Piece: Stampede and Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. The two most-viewed anime films in Indonesia cinemas are still held by films from the Doraemon series, Stand by Me Doraemon and its sequel Stand by Me Doraemon 2.

Written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga tells the story of Yuji Itadori, a student who lives in a world where negative energy called Curse can bring disaster in the world. Itadori’s life changed as he becomes a student at a school that trains Curse exterminators. The manga is serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since March 2018 and received an anime adaptation that began airing in October 2020. In Indonesia, the manga has been published by Elex Media Komputindo since January 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film is based on Jujutsu Kaisen‘s prequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. The prequel manga tells the story of Yuta Okkotsu, a high school student who is haunted by a Curse of his childhood friend Rika. Fortunately, his problem is noticed by Satoru Gojo, who convinced Yuta to enrol into a school where fledging exorcists learn how to combat curses. The prequel manga was originally published in Shueisha’s Jump GIGA from April 28 to July 28, 2017, which later republished as a single tankōbon volume on December 4, 2018.
