In the year 2205 A.D., the History Revisionist Army suddenly appeared to change the course of history. To stop them, the History Sword Warriors are created from the incarnation of Japanese historical sword. One of them is Yasusada Yamatonokami, once a sword of Shinsegumi’s Souji Okita. Can Yosisada and the other sword warriors stop the evil intent of History Revisionist Army.
Doga Kobo is known as the studio behind many famous slice of life shows. But in this season, Doga Kobo proves that they also capable creating more action oriented anime in Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru. The opening scene of Souji Okita’s assassination in Ikada inn and the fighting scene between sword warriors and History Revisionist army are beautifully animated. Fluid character movement, shaky camera work, and really close framing successfully display the tension of sword fight inside small room. Aside the action scene, Doga Kobo also manages to deliver calm and relaxed mood in the daily life scene. In this scene, viewers can watch how sword warriors interact with each other, while at the same time try to tell their backstory and their character. (Dany Muhammad – The Indonesian Anime Times)

In the future, a detective group who dubbed themselves as “Shounen Tantei Dan” formed. This group helped citizen solving their problem, whether it is a small case or large incident. One day, a young member of that group, Hanasaki, accidentally met a mysterious man in his investigation. This mysterious man had a mysterious power that made him cannot be killed, even by himself. Feel attracted by him, Hanasaki asked him to join his detective group. At the same time, a villain called “Fiend with Twenty Faces” came and terrorize the city.
After Rampo Kitan, Game of Laplace, another loose adaptation of Edogawa Rampo’s Shounen Tantei Dan (English title: The Boy Detectives Club) come out this season. Just like Rampo Kitan, Trickster also told a new adventure of The Boy Detectives Club instead adapting one of rampo’s existing work. In the first episode, Trickster is visually entertaining. The background art is beautiful. The visual design and coloring looks good, supported with suitable music track. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said in story department. There are 2 plot points that presented in this episode, the plot of Akechi vs Fiend with Twenty Faces and the meeting between Hanasaki and mysterious man named Kobayashi. The shift between 2 plot felt really awkward and unfocused, made it hard for viewers to fully enjoy the story and sympathize with its character, especially Kobayashi who describe as a tragic hero, but in execution turned out as a pretty annoying character. Told the story about a student who wanted to become an avid reader, but herself was too lazy to read books. Her daily life was filled with discussing various famous works, while complaining on how difficult to become an avid reader.
Don’t be fooled by the picture above, because this short anime is a comedy story covered with literature. If you are an avid reader, maybe you’ll recognize some of titles mentioned here. After losing the first Grand Prix contest five years ago, a professional skater Yuri Katsuki decided to return to Japan after graduating from college for 5 years. Inadvertently recording of himself imitating the routines which belongs to world-champion skater from Russia, Viktor Nikiforov, was uploaded on the internet and it become viral. Viktor who viewed the footage then came to Japan and decided to become Yuri’s coach so Yuri can win the next Grand Prix.
One of the most anticipated anime of the season, Yuri!!! On Ice proves that great expectations are owned by fans can be paid directly in the first episode. Before aired on tv, Yuri !!! On Ice already has had a solid fanbase where most of the fans are those who are lured by the teasers. Yuri!!! On Ice not only offers incredible animation but the anime also offered a great story as well. Conflicts occur from the beginning to the end of the episode. What makes this anime interesting is where the nature of the conflict presented. Sayo Yamamoto, the director of this series managed to make the audience captivated by animation and story. With all the pros and praises everywhere, Is Yuri!!! On Ice the best anime series of this season?
