Through its Facebook account, CGV Cinemas Indonesia has announced that Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale will be shown in March 2017. Further information regarding specific date and the list of CGV Cinemas that will show the film had yet to be revealed.

Prior to regular showing in March, the film will also be shown early as part of the world premiere in February 18, 2017. The one day showing of the world premiere is simultaneous with Japan and several other countries.

Other than CGV Cinemas, the cinema chains Cinemaxx and Platinum will also show the film.

Taking place after the Mother Rosario arc, this film is an original story that is not adapted from an existing source material.The synopsis of the film is described as follows:

“In 2026, two years since the SAO incident, a new game called “Oridinal Scale,” an Augmented-Reality MMO, is becoming popular among the players. But strange things are happening in the game and Kirito and the gang are facing a new danger.”

The author of the Sword Art Online novels, Reki Kawahara, is working on the story of this film. While Tomohiko Ito is in charge as director, and Shingo Adachi takes the role in character design again.

First written in 2009, Sword Art Online (also known as SAO), is a light novel series that tells the story of Kirito, Asuna, and their friends in virtual reality world. The story began when Kirito and other video game players were trapped in a virtual reality game named Sword Art Online, which sets the rule that the players who got killed in the game will also die in the real world. Kirito and thousands of other players must fought to the 100th floor of Aincrad tower in order to escape from the game. The success of this novel has lead to anime adaptations, video game, comics, and several souvenirs.
