The story of The Boy and the Heron film will be centered on Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy who struggles to settle in a new town after his mother’s death. One day, a talking heron informs Mahito that his mother is still alive. After hearing this, Mahito enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world.
Encore Films Indonesia first hinted The Boy and the Heron‘s Indonesian release on their social media on 22 October 2023. Later in November, Encore Films Indonesia announced the film would be released on 29 November 2023, before the final announcement finally confirmed the delay.
