On Thursday (3/10), mm2 Entertainment announced that several films made by Studio Ghibli will be re-released in various Southeast Asian countries at the end of 2024.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 21 films will be screened in various cinema theatres across seven Southeast Asian countries. The list of the countries includes:
- Indonesia
- Singapore
- Malaysia
- Brunei
- Thailand
- Philippines
- Cambodia
While the exact titles are not announced yet, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that some well-known Studio Ghibli titles such as Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and My Neighbor Totoro will be included. mm2 Entertainment also revealed that they will handle the distribution of those films in Singapore and Malaysia. For the other region, mm2 Entertainment would partner with the local distributors from each country.
Previously in 2017, various Studio Ghibli films have been re-released in Indonesia as a part of The World of Ghibli event. Held by Kaninga Pictures, Marubeni Indonesia, and Hakuhodo DY, The World of Ghibli event consisted of a film screening and an exhibition. 22 films were screened in that event, including Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle.
