On Thursday (12/11), Indonesian singer Sherina Munaf will perform songs and voice a character in Studio Ghibli’s film Earwig and the Witch. The character she voiced and the name of the songs she performed has not been revealed yet.

Previously, Sherina has performed a song in Japanese TV commercials produced by Studio Ghibli. The song is titled Niwa no Chigusa, which is based on the Irish song The Last Rose of Summer. Other than that, Sherina has also covered some of Studio Ghibli film’s theme songs in the World of Ghibli event in Jakarta.

Adapted from a novel by Diana Wynne Jones, Earwig and the Witch tells the story of Earwig, an orphan who lives in St. Morwald orphanage. One day, she is brought to a mysterious house, where she find out that she is actually a descendant of a witch. With the guidance of a talking cat, she tries to survive in the house full of invisible rooms, potions, and magic around every corner.

Earwig and the Witch will be Studio Ghibli’s first full 3D CG animated feature. The film will debut as a TV film at NHK on 30 December 2020. Previously, Studio Ghibli has collaborated with Studio Polygon in the production of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, also directed by Goro Miyazaki and broadcasted at NHK from 2014 to 2015. For Earwig, Keiko Niwa and Emi Gunji write the script, while Katsuya Kondo designed the character.
