In the second day, more visitors and local cosplayers came to this event. Unlike the first day, the second day was cloudy without rain, which gave a breezy atmosphere in the event.
The first guest creators in the second day were two video game developers from a Malang-based video game developer Magesoft. As game developers, they discussed their experience in the game industry and their struggle. In Indonesia, especially among the older generation, many people still think of video game as mere entertainment. When people heard about their job, many don’t believe that game could provide money. One of them also jokes, “fortunately, my parents understand and supported me. But the hardest part is probably yet to come, which is when I would introduce myself to my future father in law.” Visitors laughed to the joke.
Near the entrance, DD Tenka and Onnies continued their signing and photo session. After cosplaying as NieR:Automata characters in the first day, they used different costumes in the second day. DD Tenka cosplayed as Viktor from the anime series Yuri on Ice, while Onnies cosplayed as Harley Quinn from DC Comics.
The second guest creator is Maulana Faris, a comic artist who have produced many comics including 30 Halaman Mencari Cinta (30 Pages in Search for Love). He recounted that when he first created a comic, he was rejected 7 times by publishers before he was finally able to start serialization with his eighth work. In his discussion, he told visitors that most Japanese manga pursue something called dokugokan, the feeling when a reader read a comic. He also explained a story development structure called Kishoutenketsu, using the famous animated feature Your Name as example.
After that, there was a performance by Birth and Reborn Acoustic. They performed many popular songs from Japanese singer YUI. Many visitors were amazed by their performance and gave applause when they finished their performance.
There was also a talkshow session from guest creators. They answered many questions from the MC about the creative industry. The four creators in this session were Akhmad Fadly, Papang Jakfar, Amri from Magesoft, and Maulana Faris.
After talkshow with guest creators, both guest cosplayers came on stage. They answered some questions from MC and visitors. When asked about the most difficult costume, they answered that each costumes had their own difficulty in the making so it’s hard to describe the most difficult one.
The last schedule was cosplay performance from various cosplayers. The first performer was the group COSUKI, which performed an act from Naruto. After that, there was an act from Magi which was performed by COSMO. Both DD Tenka and Onnies looked amused by their performance and occasionally burst into laughter. After performance from COSUKI and COSMO, there was a coswalk competition. Many creative and unique costumes were shown in this competition. Some performers used baking powder to create dramatic effect and there were also some who crossdressed.
Comicamp 2 ended with a photo session with coswalk winners and juries. After the event ended, some guest cosplayers and staff from Japan Culture Daisuki also took some pictures.
Overall, Comicamp 2 event went well and smoothly. This event successfully brought visitors closer to the many local creators, communities, and circles in Malang. The only slight disturbance that occured was the weather in the first day. Hopefully, the weather will be more favorable next year, and the event can remain lively with even more guest stars and creators.
See you in the next event!
