In celebration of Eid al-Fitr holiday, Pijaru, an Indonesian creative content creator, has released a short animated feature titled Mudik on their official youtube channel on 22 June, 2017. This animated feature was made in collaboration with Cuatrodia Studio and tells the story of a little boy’s journey to his family’s hometown.
“Mudik” or homecoming is an annual tradition in Indonesia during the long Eid al-Fitr holiday. In the holiday, many people who work in major urban centers such as Jakarta return to their hometown and spend their holiday together with their family.
Eid al-Fitr is an important religious day celebrated by muslims. This day marks the end of the holy month of fasting, Ramadhan. In Indonesia, Eid al-Fitr (Usually called Hari Raya Idul Fitri or Lebaran) is celebrated as a national holiday where many people take days off from work (about a week) to spend their time with family, neighbours, and friends.
