A story is about someone doing something. Meaning it emphasizes on both the character and the plot. Something that this series, Made in Abyss, does nicely.
This series is awesome. Its vibrant visual is matched only by its own colorful world, which is only the tip of the iceberg. While the setting and premise is undoubtedly new and fresh, what shines most is its simple plot and strong, rootable main protagonist. Meet Rico, our protagonist. She’s an optimistic, strong-willed girl with lust for knowledge and discoveries. However, unlike other Cave Riders, she seeks a rather mundane goal: following her mother’s footstep as a Cave Rider. It’s just a simple story about a little girl who wants to follow her parent’s footstep. Who doesn’t want to root for that kind of girl? I sure do.
In such a vibrant and colorful world, finding a simple, understandable and strong plot is pretty amazing. Everything, from the plot, supporting characters, the main protagonist’s personalities to her desire, were laid bare. Overly simple, perhaps. But, simplicity at its best is better.
