Synopsis
Maki Katsuragi moves back to his hometown with his single mother, and meet again with his childhood friend, Toma Shinjo, who is the captain of the boys’ soft tennis team at their school. The team is threatened to be disbanded because of their poor performance, so Touma recruits the athletic Maki into the team to improve their performance for upcoming summer tournament.

Hoshiai no Sora, also known as Stars Align, sets up a story of teenage dramas, not only from the boys’ team struggles at their sport, but also through hints of Maki and Toma’s personal life issues (Maki’s gloomy girl neighbor and classmate, Kanako, seems to have her own skeletons in the closet as well). Given its subject matter, the show is served well through cute adaptation of illustrator Itsuka’s character designs, which imbue the characters with the delicateness of teenage emotions. The animation also features excellent character acting that conveys clearly the general disposition and specific moods of each character through their postures and gestures. Those elements helps to make the show a promising teenage drama.
