Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since January 2018, Act-Age tells the story of Kei Yonagi, a poor high school girl who wants to be an actress. While she failed her audition at STARS agency, she caught the attention of a famous award-winning director Sumiji Kuroyama, who brought Kei to work for his own Studio Daikokuten. Sumiji’s action is criticized by STARS agency’s CEO Arisa Hoshi, who deems Kei’s method acting “too dangerous”. What does Arisa mean? Can Kei survive in entertainment studio?

Written by Tatsuya Matsuki and illustrated by Shiro Usazaki, Act-Age started as a one-shot manga titled Welcome to Asagaya Art High School Film Section in 2017, featuring Sumiji and his future assistant Yuki Hiragi five years before the start of Act-Age manga. In an interview, the editor Shu Murakoshi stated they changed the main character from director to actor because an actor’s emotion and action are easier to highlight.

While the manga has not received any anime or adaptation yet, it already inspires a stage play adaptation titled Act-Age: The Night of Galactic Railroad. The manga has also been translated to English on Shueisha’s online comic platform Mangaplus.
