As previously reported, Indonesian comics publisher m&c! has licensed Futo Detective, the sequel manga to Kamen Rider W tokusatsu series, to be published in Indonesia under its mature-rated comics imprint Akasha. The first volume of the manga has been confirmed to ship in the last week of January 2022 as it is included in the list of new comic book releases for 26 January 2022. According to the product page on Gramedia.com, the suggested retail price for the book is IDR 45000 (about US$ 3.14).
Kamen Rider W is the 11th Kamen Rider TV series in the Heisei era and the 20th TV series in the Kamen Rider franchise overall. The series features two main characters, the self-proclaimed hard-boiled private investigator Shotaro Hidari and the mysterious Philip, who transform together into the eponymous hero using the W Driver and USB flash drive-like devices called Gaia Memories. Based in the so-called “Windy City”, Fuuto, they investigate cases in the city where the criminals use Gaia Memories to transform into monsters called Dopants.
Called Fuuto Tantei in Japan, the Futo Detective manga takes place after the end of the TV series, as Shotaro and Philip continue to solve Dopants-related cases. The manga is written by Riku Sanjo, who is the main writer of Kamen Rider W TV series, and is illustrated by Masaki Sato. Futo Detective is serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits since 2017 and has been collected into 11 volumes at the time of this writing. An anime adaptation this manga series has been announced and is set to air in 2022.
The Twitter account of m&c!’s editors first teased the manga on May 10, 2021, by posting a picture of a double-page spread from the manga depicting series’ co-lead Shotaro Hidari looking over Fuuto’s cityscape.

Futo Detective would be the third Kamen Rider manga to be officially published in Indonesia after Shotaro Ishinomori’s Kamen Rider Black manga, which was published as Ksatria Baja Hitam by PT Gramedia Majalah in 1994, and Kenichi Muraeda’s Masked Rider Spirits from Elex Media in the 2000s. Also, in 2013, Indonesian TV station Indosiar had broadcasted the series’ feature film Kamen Rider W Forever: A to Z/The Gaia Memories of Fate and the crossover films Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider W & Decade: Movie War 2010 and Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider OOO & W Feat. Skull: Movie War Core with Indonesian dub by Studio Erfas. RTV later broadcast the Kamen Rider W TV series with Indonesian dub and also streamed it on the TV station’s Kamen Rider YouTube channel.
m&c! is an Indonesian comics publisher under the Kompas-Gramedia group. Other than publishing manga, the publisher also publishes Disney comics magazines, and books, Hong Kong martial arts comics, as well as Indonesian comics under the Koloni imprint. The publisher also has the Akasha imprint for mature comics and the Clover imprint for domestic and translated novels.
