Synopsis

Himuro, a descendant of yuki-onna in this modern day, is a newcomer in the company. When his emotions get the better of him, he creates ice, snowstorms, snowmen, and snow piles. He has a secret crush on his unique but kind co-worker, Fuyutsuki, and his feelings grow so strong that sometimes he freezes those around him. On the other hand, Fuyutsuki, who is often seen as cool by others, is also very interested in the mysterious Himuro. Their relationship gradually changes through daily work and company events, and they begin to spend time together in private as well.

Diving into the first episode of The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague, the series introduced a couple of characters and how they interact in a somehow repetitive way. To sum it up, Himuro was always troubled because of his traits as a yuki-onna descendant and Fuyutsuki will offer her help in a way that her solutions become a bridge between Himuro’s conditions and the things he wants to do. For example, when Himuro wanted to touch a cat but the cat was scared because Himuro is cold, Fuyutsuki offered some of her cat’s whiskers so that Himuro can touch the cat. Then the interactions expanded to their coworkers and the story progressed. As this is an adaptation of a web manga, you might feel that each scene tends to be short because the chapters from the manga itself were mostly 4 pages in length except for the extras.

Nevertheless, The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague adds another fluff to the office romance genre with its daily supernatural spice. This is the cool, cooler, coolest office romance anime in the winter 2023 season that will warm your heart with wholesomeness. Just the other day, a friend of mine said that he likes the romance genre more as he grows old because the romantic situation in narrative media tends to be more “idealized” compared to real-life. Maybe such anime served as a portion of escapism. But also as a form of entertainment, it gives us a distraction from our daily life, a place to just relax and heal before continuing life.
