Comments
In its first week, KADO: The Right Answer aired 2 episodes at once, episode 0 and episode 1. These 2 episodes are focused on different stories. Episode 0 closes in on the characterization of its main character, Kōjiro Shindō. As a negotiator who works for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affair, he believes that negotiation isn’t about how to fool the other side, but rather how to give both parties something in their respective interests, which leads to win-win solution. It seems naive, but at least he can actualize that vision when he act ed as a mediator for negotiation between japanese government and Osakabe Plating company.
Meanwhile, episode 1 deals with building the conflict. The viewpoint changes to how the Japanese government officials reacted to the cube, while Shindō is almost entirely absent. The Japanese government’s attempt to rescue the passengers feels realistic. The urgency is still there, but they don’t act rashly and make stupid decision. With the assistance of a physics professor and his assistant, they observe the cube before deciding the best way to rescue those passengers. Episode 1 ends with an interesting cliffhanger.
Overall, this anime is recommended for those who look for a science fiction series. There are many information revealed in these 2 episodes, but they feel effective with a tendency of “show, don’t tell” approach. The animation in KADO: The Right Answer is a mix between traditional hand drawn animation with CG, which is probably isn’t a good news for some viewers. If you don’t mind with its animation, this show is recommended.
