Dany Muhammad – The Indonesian Anime Times

Starting with two episodes at once in its first week, IDOLiSH7 presents an idol anime with many personal conflicts. The members of IDOLiSH are depicted as imperfect people. Mitsuki, for example, wants to be an idol, but is not talented enough, which leads to him repeatedly rejected in auditions. Riku, on the other hand, is probably the most talented, but lacks confidence with his skill. Unlike some other idol anime that doesn’t treat their characters’ weaknesses quite seriously, IDOLiSH7 is not afraid to use them to create conflict. It builds the relationship among IDOLiSH7 members: They argue or disagree, before they mutually try to understand each other.

Othe than from the members, the conflict also comes from IDOLiSH7 manager Tsumugi Takahashi. Tsumugi is a newcomer in the entertainment industry. However, just when she began to works at his father’s agency, she’s immediately assigned as manager, which is a quite heavy responsibility. In the first two episodes, viewers can see how Tsumugi’s inexperience leads to mistakes and wrong decisions.

IDOLiSH7‘s animation is not that strong. But the main hook of IDOLiSH7 is its conflict. Fortunately, the tone of the anime never feels overly dramatic. Looking for idol anime with interesting, fleshed out characters? This anime can be recommended.
