Yamamoto began serialization of Takagi-san in Shogakukan’s Monthly Shonen Sunday Mini in June 2012 before it moved to Monthly Shonen Sunday in July 2016, with fourteen tankoubon volumes have been released so far. The series tells of a girl named Takagi who enjoys teasing Nishikata, the boy she likes who sits next to her. Nishikata repeatedly tries to get back at Takagi with his own pranks, but Takagi always manages to outwit him.
The manga has been adapted into anime series with two seasons, the first airing in winter 2018 and the second in summer 2019. The anime is directed by Hiroaki Akagi at Shin-Ei Animation and stars Rie Takahashi as Takagi and Yuuki Kaji as Nishikata.
The series have also produced several spin-offs. Ashita no Doyoubi featuring Takagi and Nishikata’s classmates was serialized in the newspaper Yomiuri Chuukosei Shimbun from November 2014 to November 2015 and has been collected into two tankoubon volumes, as well as getting adapted as part of Takagi-san anime. Koi ni Koisuru Yukari-chan, drawn by Yuma Suzu and focuses on Takagi and Nishikata’s classmate Yukari, was serialized in Monthly Shonen Sunday from 2017 to 2020. Karakai Jōzu no (Moto) Takagi-san, drawn by Mifumi Inaba and featuring grown-up Takagi with her daughter, is serialized in Shogakukan’s MangaONE app and has been collected into 10 volumes so far.
Previously, Elex media has also released Yamamoto’s short story collection Love Letter (Koibumi) in September 2020.
