Synopsis
Thousands of years into the future, humans have colonized various planets in the Milky Way. They are divided into three mutually hostile factions, the Galactic Empire ruled by the Goldenbaum Dynasty, the Free Planet Alliance, and Dominion of Fezzan. Galactic Empire and Free Planet Alliance have been involved in the war for so long, until the path of history began to change with the appearance of two leaders in both factions; Reinhard von Lohengramm, the genius who leads the Galactic Empire and never-losing magus Yang Wen-Li, a commodore of the famous Free Planet Alliance squad.

If you’re looking for space opera themed anime series this season, Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu or the Legend of Galactic Heroes can be your choice. A remake of the OVA series released in the ’80s, this new anime version now comes with a more up-to-date visuals, especially with more epic space battle thanks to the 3DCG techniques.
The first episode of this anime focuses its story on Reinhardt, the genious leader of Galactic Empire. With a slow-paced story and intense dialogue, the audience is invited to see how Reinhardt devised a strategy (and with a little bit of political intrigue within) to face the battle with the opposing faction. The battle scene in this episode its not presented in a “flashy” way, but with a strategy game involving the commanders.
The next episode of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu will likely bring more politics and intense strategies, especially from the point of view of the different faction. In addition, this anime also brings a “modern” feel to a “classic” space opera anime through its theme song.
