Synopsis

Set in a fantasy world where people live on islands floating in the sky, a young man named Gran dreams of becoming a legendary Skyfarer, those who adventure from island to island, just like his missing father. One day, a battleship belonging to the Erste Empire arrives on his island in pursuit of a mysterious blue-haired girl named Lyria. With the Empire at their heels, Gran, his small dragon friend Vyrn, Lyria, and Erste Empire defector Katalina sets out on a journey that will take them across the far reaches of the sky, to the place Gran longs for spoken in the letter he received from his father: Estalucia, fabled island of the Astrals.

That is the story of the Granblue Fantasy you know of. Your usual Granblue Fantasy, this is not.

Caesar E.S. (The Indonesian Anime Times)

Based on the 4-koma manga of the same name, Grand Blues! (Not to be confused with Grand Blue Dreaming) is the more humorous, zany, and often surreal spin-off of mobile game Granblue Fantasy, available to read in the browser game itself. Players of Granblue Fantasy should be familiar with the manga, as it’s wacky, chibi-fied alternate versions of characters such as Vyrn (Rie Kugimiya), Lyria (Nao Toyama), and Katalina (Miyuki Sawashiro) have crept into the main game itself from time to time, leaving a memorable impression.

And it’s a funny one. Even if you’re not into Granblue Fantasy, those who are familiar with *the other* popular mobile game funny manga, Learn With Manga! FGO, should find the irreverent and absurd humor similar, with characters that are more way off-kilter than their original iterations, and situations impossible to find in the original game’s scenario. Furthermore, seeing the 4-koma‘s scenes voiced by the game’s stellar voice cast certainly gives it one hell of an impact, which makes the show a jam-packed 3 minutes full of laughter. It sure ain’t no lizard, that’s for sure.
