Previously, it was reported that Blue Lock manga will be published in “a couple of months” by Elex Media. On Wednesday (17/11), the Twitter account of Elex-Level Comic’s editors have revealed the tentative release window for the manga. According to the editor, Blue Lock planned to be published around January 2022, along with A Couple of Cuckoos.

Written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and drawn by Yusuke Nomura, Blue Lock began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine in August 2018. The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The elimination prompts the Japan Football Union to start a program for high-school football players in preparation for the 2022 World Cup. The Union initiates a prison-like training institution called Blue Lock, which isolates 300 young forwards and puts them through rigorous training to create “the world’s greatest egoistic striker”.

A Couple of Cuckoos (Japanese Title: Kakkou no Iinazuke) is a manga written and illustrated by Miki Yoshikawa. It was first published in January 2020 by Weekly Shounen Magazine. It tells a story about Nagi Umino a student of a prestigious private high school. One day, he meets with Erika Amano, a rich high school girl who forces Nagi to be her fake boyfriend because she doesn’t want to meet her fiancee. It turns out later that Nagi is Erika’s soon-to-be fiancee. Moreover, both of them were switched at birth.

Both of the manga also will have anime adaptations in 2022. Blue Lock anime will be animated by 8-bit, directed by Tetsuaki Watanabe with Taku Kishimoto as the series writer. A Couple of Cuckoos will be animated by Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP, with Yoshiyuki Shirahata as the director while Hiroaki Akagi serves as chief director. Yasuhiro Nakanishi is credited as the series writer while Aya Takano designing characters

Elex Media Komputindo is a comic publisher under the Kompas-Gramedia Group. The publisher releases licensed foreign comics, including manga, and also Indonesian comics. Since 2005, Elex Media also published comics that were intended for adult audiences under the Level Comics imprint.
