Synopsis
New Year’s Eve is coming and Yamatonokami is still on his personal journey, while the touken danshi at the citadel are cleaning up and preparing for New Year celebrations. New touken danshi are also arriving at the citadel, and it’s Kashuu’s task to show them around to life in the citadel.

This iteration of Touken Ranbu anime from studio Dogakobo makes its return this winter season. Starting off with the New Year is a good opportunity to reminisce on the togetherness that the touken danshi had experienced through their previous year in the first season. As Munechika remarked near the end of the episode, the various touken danshi with their respective backgrounds and personalities play off well with each other to create new bonds of relationships. Comic expressions and relaxing music by Kenji Kawaii also build the friendly atmosphere.
Just like the first episode of the first season, aside from the more laid back activities at the citadel, there is also one sortie where some of the touken danshi get to do some cool actions against the History Retrograde Army. Overall, the episode effectively reintroduces the contents that the Hanamaru series has to offer: mostly fun and relaxing daily life with some occasional action on missions that both serve to nurture the growth of the characters’ togetherness.
