Synopsis

Tachibana, Yamamoto and Sugihara are members of a certain yakuza group. One day, they failed an important mission from their oyabun. As the consequence, they faced two choices: commit seppuku, or go to Thailand to undertake sex-change surgery and become an idol group.

Yakuza-get-sex-change-and-become-an-idol can come off as an absurd premise, but Backstreet Girls have a certain unique approach in terms of how they convey the characters’ manliness in contrast to their current identity as girls (and idols) now. Kentaro, Kazuhiko and Ryu; who are now Airi, Chika and Mari are voiced by female voice actors while their inner male thoughts, male voice actors. Their daily encounters with their fans and their daily tragic conducts are without a doubt hilarious. Back Street Girls have the potential to be the best comedy show this season.
