Synopsis

Naral Island, a continent with swords and magic in which humans and monsters coexist. The terrible Demon King lives there. In ancient times, the first-generation hero defeated the Demon King. Over the many successive generations since then, the Demon King has been resurrected, and the hero who opposes him has likewise reappeared. Girls attend a school for adventurers in order to defeat the Demon King when he appears again.

Though a bit absent-minded, Yusha has the body of a hero. The holy elf Seyla’s trouble never ends because she is too serious. The cheerful warrior Fai loves to eat. Mei is a quiet otaku magician. As the four girls aim to be in the hero party, they live relaxed fantasy lives and show no sign of defeating the Demon King no matter how much time passes.

Nichijou-kei stories have became a favourite for anime fans recently. As Tanaka (2014) noted, the popularity this genre started when Azumanga Daioh was aired in 2002, and became more popular by the years after K-ON! started airing in 2009 and many anime has followed this formula until now. The lighter tone from the characters, story, and other elements, makes this genre enjoyable for those who wants something cozy to relax from their exhausting daily life.

Endro~! might be set in a fantasy setting where RPG mechanics are present, but the series has not displayed any traits found in other adventure fantasy series. Instead, Endro~! focuses on Yusha and her friends’ blissful everyday lives as they train for the eventual challenge of defeating the Demon Lord. The slice-of-life antics become the main drive in this anime, with the end result being a fluffy and humourous series that, despite drawing so many elements from well-established genres, manages to come across as being quite original and exciting to watch.

Despite having a fantasy RPG setting, Endro~! feels like a typical nichijou-kei anime that can make you smile because of every Yusha and her friends’ antics. The story, art, and music aren’t really jaw-dropping but at least it will loosen tension from your daily life or as a side to your main anime to watch.
