Good news came from Indonesian comic publisher m&c!. On Tuesday (4/10), the publisher gave a little hint about an upcoming manga release. A picture of the Sherlock manga adapted from the BBC TV series with the caption “#2017” was posted on their Facebook page. From what it seems, m&c! will release the first three issues in 2017.
Other than that, the exact release date is still unknown. The three volumes that m&c! uploaded are all based on the TV series’ first season: A Study in Pink, The Blind Banker and The Great Game.
Sherlock is the TV series adaptation of the famous novel detective character, Sherlock Holmes. The show has aired for three seasons from 2010 and is broadcast by England TV channel BBC One. The series is then adapted into comic books with the illustration of Jay and the original script from the show creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. For Japan, the series is published by Kadokawa in comic magazine Young Ace.
BBC’s Sherlock is the reiteration of original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle with a touch of modern theme. In its three seasons, Sherlock and Doctor Watson use many 21st technology such as cell phone, internet, and modern laboratory to help them solve the case. The series itself was created and made by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. Sherlock is starred by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman stars as his partner, John Watson. The series consists of three episodes in each season and the latest we got from the series was when a special episode titled The Abominable Bride aired on early 2016.
In Japan itself, Sherlock has a pretty well-known reputation with its broadcast on public channel NHK. Cumberbatch is dubbed by Satoshi Mikami and Freeman by Toshiyuki Morikawa. Inspektur Lestrade is dubbed by Hara Yasuyoshi and Mrs. Hudson is dubbed by Ikuko Tani. Following that, Kadokawa also released The Abominable Bride in cinemas with the title Sherlock: Imawashiki Hanayome (忌まわしき花嫁). Unlike the TV series, the movie came without Japanese dubbing which means the audience could enjoy the original actors’ voice.
